March 2025 marks 10 years since I lost my oldest brother Michael.

In March, members of my family and I will be either climbing Mt Kosciusko ,reaching Australia’s highest point at 2,228 metres above sea level or completing steps virtually.

The Kosi challenge is an annual event hosted by Rare Cancers Australia (RCA) to raise awareness and much-needed funds for Australians diagnosed with a rare, less common, or complex cancer each year. Australians just like Michael, and his family.

Michael courageously fought a rare cancer (Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor of the trigeminal nerve) which at the time of his diagnosis, had only been recorded in 36 cases globally, in the previous 40 years.

My sister in law Nikki M Kerr now works for RCA, supporting families just like hers, as they navigate the challenges of living with a rare cancer.

I completely recognise that we are living in challenging times and understand If you aren’t in a position to give financially - your thoughts, support and discourse are equally.

That said, this cause is incredibly close to my heart, and with so many battling rare cancers in Australia, any contribution, big or small, can make a meaningful difference. If you’re able to help, it would mean the world 🤍

One hundred per cent of funds raised through the Kosi Challenge goes towards the important work of RCA's Patient Support Team.

From helping patients to access specialists and treatments, through to delivering support groups, connecting people with services and providing financial assistance particularly in times of crisis, Patient Support is at the heart of what RCA does.

RCA is a Federal Government-classified Health Promotion Charity. All donations over AU $2 are fully tax deductible.
