I am fundraising for..

The Kosi Challenge is an annual event hosted by Rare Cancers Australia (RCA) to raise awareness and much-needed funds for Australians diagnosed with a rare, less common or complex cancer each year.

In March 2025, I will be climbing 2,228 metres above sea level to reach Australia’s highest point to help RCA.

One hundred per cent of funds raised through the Kosi Challenge goes towards the important work of RCA's Patient Support Team.

From helping patients to access specialists and treatments, through to delivering support groups, connecting people with services and providing financial assistance particularly in times of crisis, Patient Support is at the heart of what RCA does.

RCA is a Federal Government-classified Health Promotion Charity. All donations over AU $2 are fully tax deductible.

Thank you so much for your support.

My Updates

It's that time again!

Last March, for the first time, I climbed Mt Kosciuszko for Rare Cancers Australia. It's something I'd been wanting to do for a long time, but for various reasons - physical limitations, COVID and let's face it, lack of organisation and laziness - I hadn't quite got to. It was a challenge, but it's one of the achievements I'm most proud of from 2024.

Next March I'm upping the stakes for myself. Instead of taking the first stage very easy on a chairlift before completing the 13 km round trip to the summit, I'm planning to climb Merritt's track as well - a 4 km uphill climb through bushland, rugged terrain and multiple uneven steps, which may just break me. I'm told it's very beautiful (and it had better be!) so I'm enthusiastically but nervously looking forward to it.

Like many of you, my family has been affected by cancer, and it's this that gets me out of bed before sunrise every day to prepare for the 2025 Rare Cancers Kosi climb. This year I'll be climbing with my mind focussed firmly on someone very close to me, who I lost in January. His wasn't a particularly rare cancer, but I know the challenges he faced in his journey and how much harder it is for people and their families living with a less recognised, resourced or understood form of this disease. Every dollar counts in supporting them. If you'd like to make a donation, please go to my fundraising page here: https://www.kosichallenge.com.au/fundraisers/heatherwrightman
