I am fundraising for my mum who passed from Medullary Thyroid Cancer in 2021.
The Kosi Challenge is an annual event hosted by Rare Cancers Australia (RCA) to raise awareness and much-needed funds for Australians diagnosed with a rare, less common or complex cancer each year.
My mum was diagnosed with Stage 4 Medullary Thyroid Cancer in March of 2021. It was a very confusing time as we did not know what the diagnosis could eventually mean for us as a family. Being in the dark about what was really happening was the scariest part and specialists provided little comfort. However, Rare Cancers informed us about the nature of the cancer and connected us with medication and specialists which could improve her outlook. It was so comforting to know she wasn't an outlier, despite the uncommon nature of her cancer. Ultimately, she passed on 21/12/21 and so, I will climb Kosi in honour of her for the third year.
In March 2025, I will be climbing 2,228 metres above sea level to reach Australia’s highest point to help RCA.
One hundred per cent of funds raised through the Kosi Challenge goes towards the work of RCA's Patient Support Team.
